Meeting the eCoC Deadline: How IT Systems Simplify Compliance

Meeting the eCoC Deadline: How IT Systems Simplify Compliance

The build vs. buy decision

The eCoC mandate requires manufacturers to produce digitally signed XML files in a tightly specified format and submit them to the NAP. Some manufacturers will consider building this capability in-house. Before committing to that path, it is worth understanding the scope of what is required:

  • Parsing and mapping type approval data to the IVI 2.0 XML schema (hundreds of fields, conditional logic)
  • Implementing XAdES digital signatures with proper certificate management
  • XSD schema validation to catch errors before submission
  • NAP API integration for automated submission, including authentication and error handling
  • Ongoing maintenance as the NAP evolves schema versions and API specifications

What a dedicated eCoC system provides

A purpose-built eCoC management system handles all of these requirements out of the box, allowing manufacturers to focus on vehicle production rather than XML engineering:

Data management

Central repository of type approval data, vehicle specifications, and eCoC submissions with full change history and audit trail.

Automated XML generation

Maps vehicle data to the IVI schema automatically. Handles country-specific approval authority codes, multi-stage references, and conditional field logic.

Digital signing

Automated XAdES signing with proper sequencing — validate first, then sign, then submit. Certificate management and expiry monitoring included.

NAP integration

Submit via the NAP API or portal. Track submission status, handle rejections, and manage resubmissions from a single interface.

ERP integration

Most manufacturers already hold vehicle technical data in their ERP system. A dedicated eCoC platform can pull data directly from your ERP, eliminating manual data entry and ensuring the eCoC always reflects the latest production data.

This is particularly valuable for high-volume manufacturers where manual entry would be impractical and error-prone.

Conformity of Production (CoP) readiness

The NAP conducts Conformity of Production (CoP) audits to verify that manufacturers continue to produce vehicles in conformity with the approved type. A complete audit trail of every eCoC submission, correction and resubmission is essential evidence for these audits.

COCDesk — from production line to NAP submission

COCDesk is a purpose-built eCoC management system for vehicle manufacturers:

Import vehicle data from your ERP or enter it manually
Generate, validate, sign and submit eCoCs in minutes
Full audit trail for CoP compliance
Scales from small series to high-volume production
Automatic updates as NAP requirements evolve
